Apparently Manila is 14.5 degrees north of the equator; maybe that's why it was so hot. By the time I got all the way to Cebu, it was 11 degrees north.

Manila jeepney (far right). According to a man I met, Jeepneys differ in Manila and Cebu in that Manila ones are made from jeeps, and Cebu ones are made from used trucks imported from Japan.
