The Atomic Bomb Dome. It was a government building or something before the bombing, and it is strange that it survived as well as it did given its proximity to the hypocentre of the bomb. It was almost immediately preserved in this half-destroyed state as a symbol of the effects of the bomb.

It's hard to read the plaque in this picture, but this is the peace bell. It is common to hear the sound of this bell ringing throughout the park.
