I had my last day of work on Friday. Of course, when I decided to go to Japan, I knew that day was going to come, but still I was a bit sad when I took that final elevator ride down into the parking garage. I was only working there for 1 1/2 years, but it was an extension of my old company where I worked for 7 years before that. And, although, like any job it had its share of frustrations, the people were great and it really was a pretty good place to work.

After that, I drove out to Kitchener to complete the paperwork on the sale of my car. The new owners were a young couple about to be married, and it was the first car for both of them. She was so happy to have signed the papers that she went outside and hugged the car, and then triumphantly ripped the “FOR SALE” signs out of its windows. At least I know that my car will be well-loved.

Not much time left — 48 hours from now I will have checked in for my flight. Right now I’m just packing up. What looked like an incredible amount of luggage space before looks much smaller now, but it looks like everything is going to fit.

My friend Bruce Li challenged me to take at least one photo every day while I am there. I’ll be putting a new album up in the gallery once I’ve got a couple days worth of photos.
